Please read everything before you go clicking links in this post (this is about a new site, so it could be a scam, but the promise of the idea is interesting).
A fellow ECTS teacher recently shared this TikTok video with me about an AI service that reads your resume and provides clear advise on improving it, along with generating cover letters for specific jobs you may be interested in. I thought I’d post it here for reference. It’s about Hireflow.net (here’s the TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRwAhKpV/) . BEFORE YOU GO CLICKING THAT LINK AND UPLOADING INFO ABOUT YOURSELF OR ENCOURAGING OTHERS TO DO SO, I’d encourage a little research and/or caution. At the time of posting this, the site was quite young and had a low score on other sites that check various properties of the site to evaluate validity (it also borrows its name from a slightly older job placement site hireflow.com). Additionally, there is no such thing as a free service on the web. As the saying goes, “If you’re not paying for it, that means you are the product.”
The “is it safe” links I looked at (at the time of writing 4/27/24) all had uncertain scores for the site:
- https://www.scam-detector.com/validator/hireflow-net-review/
- https://www.scamadviser.com/check-website/hireflow.net
With that said, it could just be that the site is very young and not yet established, which is why the validity of the site is uncertain. The video shows promise of great things, that are certainly possible with AI these days, so if you are set on trying the tool out, you may want to consider the following:
- Change all personal information before uploading any documents (the bot doesn’t need to know your real name, address, phone, email, etc. to provide the feedback it boasts…make sure to also not have your real name in the filename.
- You might want to resist the temptation of downloading anything from the site at least until it has a higher credibility score.
Frankly speaking, I’m a bit skeptical of the site and would probably take a longer route just to feel a bit safer, but it does lead to the idea of using other more “trustworthy” AI tools such as Chat GPT or Claude.AI for the same purposes (maybe just a little less streamlined)….even in that route though, I’d encourage hiding as much personal information as possible.
If nothing else, take from this article some idea of a few steps and considerations you may want to have for unfamiliar websites that offer big things.
