About
Vex STEM is an off-season robotics idea to help build skills for the next year’s season.
It would help with team building and planning for the actual competitions. It could also be a fun competition between the AM and PM teams, if we found a way to plan that.
Skills
- Driving
- Main part of competitions
- Good skill in general
- Find driver for next year of competing
- Coding
- Used in competitions
- Literally what the class is about
- Different languages to learn
- Building
- The whole point of the competitions
- Good life skill
- Planning
- More orderly building
- Should limit competition cramming
- Know what is needed to be bought
Exercises
- Maze
- Works with game design (designing maze)
- Work with If/Else statements
- It will help with understanding the robot’s turning directions and degree measurements (because it is not regular)
- It will help with understanding the robot’s speed in comparison to the distance it travels
- Maybe code a dance at the end for fun?
- Tower
- Will help coders work with the robot’s precision and changing the speed of some motors (maybe)
- Will help coders work with the robot’s turning for more careful changes in direction
- Will help coders understand what measurements to use in regards to both the robot’s and the tower’s height
- Could be a small competition for tower height
- Delivery
- Allows coders to practice using the claw and its motor
- Force
- Speed
- Driving direction depending on stock/delivery locations
- Will help coders understand how to control the robot’s precision at a higher speed (turns and stops)
Games
- Soccer
- Allows drivers to understand the controls
- Allows builders to mess with the bot’s design a bit
- Allows drivers to understand how the robot will move when dealing with an opposing force
- This applied to the game in 2023
- Possibly tracking points in the individual robots (Unsure if this would work)
- Race
- Driving practice
- How to control the bot with speed and quick turns
- It would be a fun competition
