Personal based questions
What is your position name? Contractor / Software Developer.
In the actual field, how much can you expect the actual pay to be? 60k-100k Heavily location based and experience based and can go above 200k in some cases.
What would you consider to be your most used language in development? Typescript / Golang.
On average, how many lines of code do you write per day? Although it’s a bad metric, you could typically expect a max of 100. The actual field for a developer contains far less programming than you’d think, and you will need to do many other things, such as: social networking, designing, manual schedule management.
How would you say AI is affecting your job? Hardly any effect, as it can really only be used for rudimentary tasks.
Job based questions
How secure would you say the field is? The field is fairly dependent on the chosen occupation, but senior developers have a much higher security than junior developers. The competition is very high for entry level positions, and the middle class in between senior and junior is no longer relevant.
How difficult would you say it would be to secure a job in the field? As stated in a previous question, getting into the field is very hard, especially without experience. Due to many common misconceptions, the actual market is consistently saturated, and can be heavily difficult to join. Try networking with others, and gain experience via startups or freelancing.
What education level would you recommend for the field? The actual education doesn’t matter, as long as you can do the work then you can get a job in the field.
What type of environment could I expect to work in? Digitally, expect to work in something like Linux. Physically, you can expect to work at Home (at least for Software Enginners) or at a office.
What subjects would you advise to learn for the field? Social networking, architecture/cloud, business decisions, try and learn a broad range. This ties into job availability/security, as there is always someone who will be willing to do your job for less, so you need to make yourself more knowledgeable on everything you can learn so you always have a spot.
Would you recommend us to go into the field? Yes, there are many opportunities for those who are willing, but you should go if you actually enjoy doing it, not if you only want the benefits. Succeeding is going to be way easier by wanting to do something then not.
